The Week I'll Never Forget//21st Birthday

This is a series of blogs that I will be posting over the next couple of days because it was a humongous week.

Okay let's back track a little bit. My 21st birthday was on September 13th! Feel free to skip to the end if you don't want to know about my festivities, I just want to talk about them because I'm one of those people that will watch the videos on YouTube about what somebody got for their birthday. I mean, people make actual 20 minute videos about this and I will sit there for 20 minutes with edge-of-the-seat excitement watching birthday presents being pulled out of bags. On my actual birthday I slept in a little bit before donning my birthday shirt and some make up. I then went to the café at school to meet with Tony, and if you know Tony you know he's the best. He proceeded to tell everyone in the place that it was my birthday, making them wish me a happy birthday, which was so sweet and very, very kind! I then was able to meet with my friends Julia and Tyler to get smoothies and hang out with their guinea pigs before meeting up with my mentor to have my first alcoholic beverage! Alcoholic beverages are interesting things. I honest to God have never had an adult drink before turning 21 or at least not one whole drink to myself, (sips. literally 3, I kept track.) so when I tasted this coconut drink it was strange because I felt fire coming out of my nose like a dragon and my chest felt heavy. Needless to say, I'm not exactly sure how I feel about drinks yet. I think I like the sparkly ones with bubbles in them served in tall glasses but who knows until I try more.

Then of course the next day was the conference. See this post to know more about what happened on that day! That was also the day that my mom and I went out for mimosas, and thus the liking of tall sparkly drinks was born.

Friday night was the big night though, I invited several of my closest friends, and my boyfriend, to have a little get together in my dorm room because I know that I usually get very busy and don't always get the opportunity to hang out with my friends as much as I'd like to. Honestly, whenever the opportunity arises I love to get a group of my friends together to have a nice time. This was no exception! My friends are seriously amazing. They are so sweet, kind, funny, and fun to be around! It's awesome that I don't have to do much or plan anything out all the way, when we're together the fun just happens and I hope everybody that has friends has friends like these! Their gifts are totally spot on with my personality and interests and I love them all so incredibly much! (The gifts and the friends!!!) Did you know that they make shot glasses that look like mason jars? Spoiler Alert: they do and they're adorable. I know I said thank you about 100 million times to y'all if you came that night, but here's another one for your collection: thank you for being amazing friends I love you all so much.

To wrap the birthday week off right, I went out with my mom again. This time we went thrift shopping together which is one of our favorite activities and we also went to the mall and got some absolutely spectacular deals. I have to tell a story because it's kind of funny, my brother didn't tell me happy birthday, he doesn't need to, I get it, but he did me one better. If you sign up with Hot Topic, the store, on your birthday you get a discount of some sort and mine this year was five dollars off of a purchase. I knew exactly what I wanted to buy with that five dollars off. A Melanie Martinez T-shirt. Hands-down, that is what that coupon was made for. So imagine my surprise when I open the gift that was given to me from my mom and brother and see at the bottom of the bag of Melanie Martinez T-shirt already purchased for me. Adrian picked it out. I literally can't even.

That sounds like a lot, but even making this post now is premature. I know so many people and I want to spend time with so many people that I will continue to celebrate my birthday for the remainder of the month, just so that I have an excuse to be with those that I love. Birthdays are great! Wouldn't it be great for more people to have even more birthdays? Once again, I am incredibly fortunate in my life to be surrounded by love and support and happiness. For some people that isn't as abundant. Or maybe when you're going through a harsh disease that doesn't have a cure yet it's harder to notice those beautiful things. Since high school I've been participating in an event called Relay for Life by the American Cancer Society(ACS). Because my cup runneth over, I have already put $50 towards fundraising for the 2018 Relay for Life at my university. The American Cancer Society is The Official Sponsor of Birthdays. Mine was fantastic and I am grateful to be able to support an organization that will make more fantastic days happen for all types of people.
