A Letter to Some Body

Today my thighs and I aren't getting along.
So, naturally, I went and found a photo of a day we did. How could I have felt so positive about my body one day, and the next not so much? How is it possible for my body image to change so drastically within a single day sometimes?
Instead of telling you more about my health journey, (that'll be another blog day 😉), I'm going to write a letter to some body. Here goes it;
Dear Some Body,
You are beautiful. No, I'm not just talking about your hair that isn't doing the thing you like, or the layers of adipose tissue that you carry around that make you a great snuggler. I'm not only referring to the spots or creases on your face that are real signs of you growing and becoming the person you are meant to be. For heavens sake, forget about your cellulite (or lack thereof!) While those things are gorgeous and just mere effects of being alive as a human on planet Earth, today I want to say that you are beautiful. Beneath all the flesh and bones is someone unique. You have strengths as well as weaknesses, and that is okay. You have something to offer this world.
You are more than your body, even though it's pretty fantastic just the way it is. Don't fret about the little things you can't change about it. Embrace what is there. Your body is your vessel, so by all means protect it, but I also advise you to love your own body as you would that of a close friend. Would you put them to tears because of how they appear in a mirror? Of course not! So why is it okay to do it to yourself? Are you any less of a human being than they are? Are you less talented or skillful? No! You, all of us really, are forces to be reckoned with. Treat yourself as such, because you deserve it.
Go ahead. Poke your abdomen, squeeze your thigh. Stare at a scar or stretch mark. Look in the mirror at your "too this" or "too that" hair. Smile. Smile with teeth or grin, smile until you develop fine lines at the corners and then, smile some more. Smile because the person staring back at you is you. And you are beautiful.
As Always,
Alyssa
