If I Were to Die Tomorrow

How would you live today if you knew you were going to die tomorrow?

This thought is spooky, but completely necessary! It begs the question, "What am I living for anyway?" Truly, what do you want to achieve before you breathe your last breath? How important is it for you to reach that goal? What are you doing today, right now, to finish that race?

Told ya it was spooky.

You're not alone.

This summer I was completely unproductive. It has been so damaging to my self esteem. It's kind of hippocritical of me to say this, but there are seasons in your life when it's okay to rest and it's necessary to have no plans for a little while. For me that period only lasts a couple of weeks though and once that threshold is crossed, I'm done for. Leftover feelings of worthlessness from the seventh grade creep up on me during the wasted daylight hours. Self-doubt cradles me to sleep, and the cycle starts anew the next time I wake up. Imagine my guilt when I hear that quote. If I die tomorrow... I haven't even made a baby step toward my greater goal anytime soon. It's tortureous!

So just what am I going to do about this conundrum? It is actually something that you should try too. Within the confines of the day, whether that be trapped at home or on campus, I will do at least one thing that will benefit me in the future. In practice this looks like

  • Starting hall decorations for my job

  • Filming or editing a video for my channel

  • Packing for move-in day

  • Solidifying relationships (Talking to, texting, or hanging out with family, friends, or the boyfriend)

  • Planning for the future (Emails, planner writing, making to-do lists, etc.)

  • Learning or making a new recipe (No more meal plan for me!)

  • Searching or applying for scholarships, sponsorships, volunteer opportunities, or internships

  • Researching grad schools (Hi, FSU, how are ya?)

  • Improving artistic technique

  • Reading about Social and Emotional Learning

  • Writing blog posts 😉

These are just some of the things I do, the list goes on and on. Kudos to me if I can do multiple of these in a day!

The bottom line:

Make the most of every moment when you can. It is very difficult to be dissappointed in yourself when you are actually doing the best you can in any given circumstance, even if it's just getting to live to be another day older. Don't let anything-setting, situation, resources, etc.-get in the way of doing at least one thing a day that will allow you to be the person you dream to be.
